Legatum and IJM

Today the Legatum Institute hosted the International Justice Mission at a lunch fund and awareness raiser event. I recommend the work of the IJM to you and hope you will consider supporting them financially, or perhaps even study law and join their work rescuing people who are held in slavery all around the world. There is a myth that people no longer get bought and sold, or that there aren’t people  who work without being allowed to leave work. This myth was powerfully broken by the stories told over lunch.

Legatum Institute is also an interesting outfit. They have developed the Prosperity index, which seeks to challenge the way traditional forms of prosperity are measured around the world. Its outlook is fundamentally a pro-trade one, but looks beyond GDP and other traditional indicators to measure prosperity.

Do check both these organizations out if you have the time.
